The AKI.IO Launch Manifesto
Table of Content
But Europe leads where it matters most: trust, governance, and responsibility. We firmly believe innovation and regulation are not opposites.
That’s why we built AKI.IO. To empower companies, research institutions, and public agencies to run their AI workloads on the world’s leading open-source and open-weight AI models, without exporting sensitive data to U.S. hyperscalers and without sacrificing access to cutting-edge models from Asia.
Because today’s AI teams face a real dilemma:
- They need the best models.
- They need them fast.
- They need them affordable.
- And they need them compliant with GDPR.
The missing piece: a sovereign European AI platform. Production-ready, secure by design, and built to keep sensitive data where it belongs: in Europe.
Introducing AKI.IO
AKI.IO is a European AI-as-a-Service platform built for businesses, builders and innovators who need reliable, production-ready access to curated open-source AI models. We provide a continuously evaluated portfolio ranging from lightweight, task-specific models to large, state-of-the-art systems.
Through a simple, OpenAI-compatible API, your application sends structured payloads directly to the selected model, which runs securely on European infrastructure and returns computed output with low latency and predictable performance. There is no vendor lock-in, no hidden routing through non-EU regions, and no compromise on GDPR compliance.
Curated open-source & open-weight AI models
The services launches with a first batch of leading, carefully curated open-source AI models. Highlights: Minimax M2.5 for agentic systems and as coding specialist, Apertus by the Swiss AI Initiative as a superior European alternative, the popular Qwen 3 35B, as well as Qwen image and Qwen Image Edit for fast creative image work and editing.
In addition, of course, proven open-source and open-weight models such as Flux.2 [klein] by Black Forest Labs and Z-Image Turbo, proven workhorses such as GPT OSS 120B by OpenAI, Ministral 3 14B by MistralAI, and Llama 3.3 70B and Llama 3.1 8B by Meta.
AKI.IO provides a broad, curated range of open source models within an exclusively European infrastructure. Further international top-of-the-range and special models for video, audio, or streaming are set to follow.
A Simple, Developer-Centric Offering for AI Teams
AKI.IO provides a streamlined infrastructure layer designed for AI teams that want to evaluate, deploy, and scale open-source models without managing underlying compute complexity.
- Model playground for model testing
- Self-service backend to provision keys and endpoints
- GDPR-compliant legal framework
- Monthly billing based on tokens used, transparent and simple
We operate the entire model orchestration and inference stack including elastic server workers and AI-optimized HPC hardware, hosted exclusively in European data centers. No data is routed outside our infrastructure, and no external third parties or hyperscalers are involved in processing or code execution.
You focus on building and shipping AI-powered applications; we handle scaling, updates, and infrastructure reliability.
We are Europeans
Our guiding principles in technical development and business operations are these fundamental values
- Human-centric AI
- Open infrastructure mindset
- Ethical business practices
- Sustainability through technical efficiency
- Committed to the European humanist ideal
These principles form the foundation on which we are building AKI.IO: for the benefit of people and for the strength of Europe’s society, economy, and research community.

Agentic AI in Europe: What Teams Should Get Right Early
Agentic AI is moving beyond chat into systems that can read files, edit code, call tools, browse the web, run terminal commands, and complete work across multiple steps.
How Berlin´s CCT Built an Knowledge Assistant with Open WebUI
Moritz Gehrke is a member of Company Consulting Team e.V., Berlin’s student consulting organization. At CCT, he works on tech projects that connect modern AI tools with real organizational needs, with a focus on usable, privacy-aware systems in practice. A practical example of how a student consulting organization turned internal documents into a searchable AI knowledge base in just a few steps, using Open WebUI and the AKI.IO API on European infrastructure.
